The priest Václav Hájek of Libočany finished his Chronicle manuscript already in 1539, subsequently it was subjected to censorship by Catholic nobles (Hájek was Utraquist until the 1520’s). The printing took place with great financial difficulties and in 1541 most of the work burned down. The work in the amount of a thousand copies had not get to its reader until 1543. In his work Hájek tracks Czech history from ancient beginnings until 1527. The Chronicle is accompanied by nearly 150 woodcuts related either directly to the text, and to the neutral natural sceneries and finally to the intronisations and funerals of the individual rulers. The popularity of the Chronicle at the time prior to the Battle at White Mountain is evidenced by its relatively early translation into German.

Literature: Jungmann; 1849: Jungmann IV. 418a), Bibliography No. 2867, Zíbrt II. 1851.
